Growing Pains

Growing older isn’t easy. You deal with new aches and pains daily. They can be physical. They can also be emotional or mental.

If you’re not taking care of yourself and your aches and pains, your body will just stop. It gets tired of fighting against you and will get so tired that it just can’t go anymore. Instead of letting yourself get to that point, why not do something?

If you’re in a relationship that makes you dread going home, get out of it. Life is too short to live miserably. I used to believe in sticking it out until I stuck it out so much that I felt like the life was being sucked out of me. I wasn’t living. I was surviving. There is a difference.

If you’re tired of the way people in your life are treating you, stop complaining about it. Just quit associating with them. There is no law that says those people have to be in your life. Well, unless you’re in jail…then, yes, they do. But it’s ok to stand up for yourself and move on. If a relationship is not bringing something positive to your life, then it doesn’t need to be in your life.

If you have negative thoughts constantly, do something. Therapy is an option! If you have insurance, call your insurance provider and check on what your benefits cover. You might be surprised. If you don’t have insurance, check on what’s available in your area. There’s lots of places that offer sliding-fee scales. Don’t know where to check? Go to http://www.nami.org and they’ll help you.

If you want to feel better, you’re going to have to accept some responsibility. You’re going to have to step up and tell people in your life what you think and feel. The people who matter will care. The people who don’t care don’t matter and maybe they shouldn’t be in your life.

It might hurt to lose some people. But didn’t it hurt to think they didn’t care? At least you know where you stand. Now you can move on and heal.

Dealing with the aches and pains of life isn’t easy. But it’s better to deal with them than to let them become debilitating in every aspect.
