the ups and downs of life

I’ll admit it

I will admit it…I like Nicholas Sparks. I know a lot of people don’t. I do. I remember watching the beginning of his career in a CBS special about how he got his first novel published. It was sentimental and sweet. It was very much like his novels. I know a lot of his novels are similar. So are Danielle Steele’s, John Grisham’s and Nora Robert’s. I am not a huge fan of Danielle Steele, but the other people I do like. I also love that Nicholas Sparks now lives in my state. I am currently reading Safe Haven. I am not far into it, but it takes place in an area where I want to live. I would move there in a heartbeat! It’s close to Wilmington, NC. He gives the area a Mayberry-esque personality but with beaches.

I told y’all I got my e-reader the other day. It is allowing me to get back to one of my basic loves again. Reading. I want to write more in the style of Nicholas Sparks. He knows how to grab the heart. I want to do that. I also want to use my wittiness (read that as me being a smartass). I think a combination of Nicholas Sparks, Helen Fielding and Jennifer Weiner might provide for some good reading. They are on my reading list. I haven’t read them in a while. So now y’all know who I read. Who do YOU read?

  1. Hey Amy – my daughter loves Nicholas Sparks, too. I used to read his books, but it’s too painful now. But he does have a way of touching people.

I don’t go anywhere without my Nook. And to think I used to say I couldn’t go without a real book…

    Love & prayers,

    • I understand it is too painful now. I pray that it won’t be too painful down the road. For a long time the only thing I could listen to on the radio was religious stuff and talk radio. I couldn’t hear any kind of music because it all hurt. Now I listen to it and my heart doesn’t break with each word. Prayers for you, my friend!
