the ups and downs of life

My Cat Has Anxiety

I think Soleil has anxiety. She has always been clingy. She’s  always up and under me. The other day I almost fell down the stairs because of this. If I try to make her go to another room or push her away, she gets upset. I thought cats were supposed to be aloof and all that. Not Soleil. She will stick as close to you as possible. Well, as long as you aren’t trying to put her into water. She is even to the point now, though, where she will come into the bathroom while I am taking a shower and watch me through the clear shower liner. If she is sitting beside me she also does this compulsive licking. She has to lick  my arm if she can reach it. I fuss at her and she acts all hurt but it absolutely drives me nuts! I cannot stand it. I think when I take her to the vet for her shots that I am going to ask him about this and see if there is some herbal kitty Xanax or something. She needs to chill out! I mean sh is the sweetest cat in the world, but man is she anxious!

  1. One of our pomeranians is a compulsive licker, too! He is attached to my husband and feels he must be held in his arms or in his lap 24/7. He is wanting to be scratched the whole time and nudges you with his nose if you stop. If you won’t scratch him, he licks you constantly. My husband can sympathize with you because he goes nuts with the scratching/licking obsession. But …we love our dogs like babies, so we’ll continue to let them rule the roost!:)

    • I love my Soleil. I really do. But that licking the arm thing drives me nuts! I feel bad that after a while I am like STOP! And then she looks like her little feelings are hurt. Right now I am not sure where she is. I think I am gonna sneak a nap in! 🙂 Doesn’t that sound exquisite! A nap! Woohoo!

  2. Aww…poor little thing…some kitty Xanax would be good, wouldn’t it?

    • I do think it might help her. She does well most of the time and then she just gets a little anxious and then the licking of the arm. And it is non-stop. I have tried to just let her do it for a minute or two and see if that makes her feel a little better. It doesn’t. And it just really hurts my skin.
