National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day

Yum! National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day! What a great day! Such a classic. This is probably the first sandwich you ever fixed for yourself. It is a great food memory for most.

I love PB&J. So delicious. I think I could probably eat this for at least one meal 5 out of 7 days a week. Easy. I typically use jam instead of jelly. It’s only because it’s strawberry and jelly is smoother and jam has more whole fruit in it that has been jellied. You still get the same result. Yummy goodness! I do like other flavors, too. Grape and apple are good. But strawberry jam is my absolute favorite.

Now lemme warn you, though, that I am picky about my PB&J. I do not like my jelly to permeate my bread and make it sticky and soggy. Ewww! No. I put a thin layer of peanut butter on the two pieces of bread in order to protect my bread. Then I put my jam/jelly and then it is ready to go. I prefer it on white bread, but this can vary. I don’t have to have the crusts cut off unless they’re super thick and way too chewy. I like a cold glass of milk with my sandwich.

These sandwiches take me right back to a happy food memory. It’s a happy childhood time. And usually after having one I need my naptime! Does PB&J conjure up food memories for you?

Some Foods Just Go Together

Have you ever thought of how some foods just go together? Peanut butter and jelly. Porkchops and applesauce. Hamburgers and french fries. Chocolate and peanut butter. Some foods just work together. Their combinations have always gone together and will always go together.

I have some food combinations that work for me and I have to have them together.. It’s just like the food don’t work without their counterpart. I think some of these combinations were learned in school and some from my parents. Some are just my own weird likes. In elementary school they served chili with carrot sticks. I still love chili with carrot sticks to this day. I also like dill pickle slices when I have grilled cheese sandwiches. That was something from school and home. I am like everyone else who loves Oreo cookies in milk. I dunk mine until they’re just soft and not soggy. I love them that way! I am not a fan of hot dogs, but if I do eat them they have to have chili and cheese on them with some onions. I like the foot long Coney dogs from Sonic. That’s pretty much the only way I will eat them. I also love meatloaf and make a wonderful version myself. When I have meatloaf I have to have mashed potatoes with it. I also like green beans with my meatloaf. I love biscuit and gravy and my Mama taught me to crumble my biscuit before I put gravy on top. I don’t half it like most people do; I crumble. That is just how I do it. It feels wrong any other way. I also like a scrambled egg sandwich. I like mayonnaise on my sandwich. I don’t like egg salad sandwiches yet I love scrambled egg sandwiches. That seems weird yet it is how I like things. I also think that ketchup on eggs is wrong. Some people love it, but I just can’t fathom putting ketchup on my eggs. Maybe it tastes delicious but I will never know because I can’t stand the thought of doing that to my eggs.

So now you know some of the foods I love and why. Do you have any certain things that you have to have together? What are your favorites? Come on! I shared. So you share with me!
