Personal Responsibility
I believe in helping others. Actually, it is a big deal to me. A very big deal. But that doesn’t mean that other people lose their personal responsibility for their own lives. We all are responsible for some portion of our own lives. If you expect someone to cater to your every whim, you’re going to be very disappointed. If you expect someone to do things you should be doing for yourself, again, you are going to be very disappointed.
It seems as if so many people want to say poor me all the time and don’t want to take personal responsibility. And it isn’t just celebrities these days. (Although that does run rampant.) Normal people do it to. I don’t have a job. Poor me. Have you looked? Oh…that job isn’t the job you wanted? OK. Sorry. Then you obviously don’t want one bad enough. I’m broke. But I have premium cable and I go out to eat daily. Give me a break!
As for celebrities…OMG! I love Hank Williams, Jr. but when he made the comment he did recently that compared the President to Hitler, I knew that was a PR disaster waiting. And then when it cost him his job, he basically was like, “My bad. I didn’t mean it that way.” I’m sorry, Hank, but how else could that be taken? You did mean it. What you didn’t mean for was it to cost you your well-paying gig as the voice of Monday Night Football. Right? Either you meant what you said or you didn’t. Pick a side and stick to it.
I’m overweight. Should I whine and cry that McDonald’s did this to me? They didn’t. I did it. Now there are underlying issues that I need to deal with personally. But I don’t make public declarations that “McDonald’s blew my butt up 10 times the size it should be!” No. That is overly dramatic and wrong. I need to take personal responsibility and accept my part in the blowing up of the butt.
People, take some responsibility for yourselves. Other people would love to help you. But when you refuse to listen to great suggestions or you think you’re too good, it kinda makes them want to blow you off. I know it does me. My thought is what is the point? I have tried my best and they don’t care to listen. I think we all need help in life at some point. Just make sure that if you’re complaining or saying you need it that you truly mean it.
