Politically Correct
I remember the first time I heard the words together: “politically correct.” Hmmm…interesting concept. What does it mean? According to http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary it is “conforming to a belief that language and practices which could offend political sensibilities (as in matters of sex or race) should be eliminated.”
It’s all well and good to try not to offend, but you cannot please everyone. Inevitably someone is going to be offended by something. For instance, my language may be more colorful than yours. Some of the words I use may offend you. Should I stop talking? You may think so but I don’t. And I am not going to. If you are offended, stop reading or listening to me. It is that simple. I am not going to quit being me so that you feel good about life and me. If you don’t like who or what I am, fine. That’s your opinion. I have them, too. I find it offensive that you would want to stifle me. And I feel that is politically incorrect! So we are at an impasse, right?
Everyday the world has to deal with these issues. What may seem offensive to one group of people may be the highest form of praise to another. I forget which country it is that finds burping to be a great compliment. I don’t know many people who find it to be a great compliment yet there is a whole country that does!
What’s my point? I’m getting to it! I promise! I have one. I was introduced to information that I found to be insane. It’s in a US Marine Military Blog. It is about political correctness and involves of all things farting! Yes, farting. Here’s the link in case you don’t believe me! http://militarytimes.com/blogs/battle-rattle/2011/08/23/for-marines-in-afghanistan-be-careful-where-you-fart/ It seems that in Afghanistan they are quite offended by audible farting and so now the Marines can only let loose with the silent-but-deadly variety around the Afghans. I wonder what the penalty will be for the poor Marine who can’t restrain him/her self? Who will be the enforcer? Do you get thrown in the “brig” for farting? I mean, what is the appropriate punishment for audible farting? Who decides? And what about Marines who could have a medical condition where they can’t control it? Isn’t that some form of discrimination? I mean, we’re getting rid of “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” but they can’t fart? Come on! Give me a break!
I just feel this is ridiculous. It’s ok to shoot guns and throw grenades in Afghanistan, but God/Allah forbid someone rip one! Can we focus on a few more important things? Maybe we should quit being so politically correct and realize that pussy footing has weakened our nation and we need to quit giving in to the demands of everyone who complains. I love my country and our soldiers! And if they need to fart then I say they should fart! God bless the USA
