So yesterday I had a migraine. I had taken all the OTC stuff my body could handle. Nothing was working. I was in a dark room feeling sick and needed to order my prescription migraine medication. So I call the pharmacy. I have 2 different ones on file and so the pharmacist checks the prices. For the Zomig, which was only 3 pills, the cost with insurance was going to be $60. For Maxalt, which was 9 pills but works less effectively, the cost with insurance was going to be $40.
This is ridiculous! The thing is that drug manufacturers can charge the public a fortune for these medications because they know people need them. The drug stores have to make a profit. And why is insurance not paying more?
I ended up getting the Maxalt. I was so angry, though. I feel that this is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for medication. But it is either that or suffer for days with pain that feels as if knives are being shoved into my head. This morning my head still hurts somewhat and I went ahead and took another pill to try to stop it from getting to level 10. Right now we’re just at level 4.5.
I wish something could or would be done to regulate the prices of these medications, though. If this is the cost WITH insurance, what would it be without insurance? It is ridiculous.
